Nothing in our outward life prepares us for the claims of a creative life. Imagination flows like an underground river that occasionally breaks the surface in a fountain of activity and then subsides to a trickle.

Three Writers discuss settings

A good description gives the reader the feel of the place in which the story is set, and therefore, the mood of the story itself. The description should convey emotion. If it’s flatly realistic, it’s probably not doing its job.
